It offers more room than a shaped case: space for the violin, up to four bows, sheet music and accessories. Shaped cases are listed in their own category. Inside the case the violin is suspended. A velvet lining protects the top and back when the instrument is put in and taken out. Separate compartments hold strings and fine tuners, sprung holders hold the bow. A firm handle, a shoulder strap or backpack straps make the daily trip easier. A metro strap keeps the case close to the body on bus and train. On the outside, an Oxford cover with an overlapping rain flap is the usual version. Moisture at the zip is then not a typical problem.
